Morson Group is the third largest engineering staffing firm in the world operating in over 60 global locations.
The ability to cache data to be uploaded when a suitable connection is available ensures no worker is left behind
Accessing documents such as RAMs or method statements via the mobile app created efficiencies at the start of a shift
Understanding actual hours worked in real-time will improve the accuracy of fatigue management
Morson were looking for a solution to ensure that they could demonstrate the right worker was in the right place at the right time for their client, a local government body providing rail services in the UK.
The main challenge was proving that their largely remote workforce was mentally and physically safe, as well as compliant. Additionally, their staff were often working in areas of low connectivity so the solution also had to be robust enough to accommodate shift work in unsociable environments.
Fit for Work collaborated with Morson Group and identified that an integration with their resource planning tool, Signal, would be the most efficient addition to their portfolio as Signal provided an overview of personnel planned resource. The submission of real-time working hours and location information through the Fit for Work app during each shift provided a more detailed oversight on each worker, particularly important with regard to fatigue management.
Any time a worker was in an area of poor signal or underground, the cached data within the app was uploaded later when there was a sufficient internet connection.
With the support of Fit for Work, Morson have been able to tackle a challenging health and safety landscape proactively with a more informed resource planning process as a result of implementing alongside existing systems. The two systems will soon be integrated so that planned resource and budgets can be reconciled with actual working hours data.
For the individual operative working in hazardous environments, the Fit for Work app provides an immediate feedback screen that also works offline, providing instruction for what to do in the event of an issue. If there is no supervisor available at the time, the worker knows what to do in order to proceed safely.
With no loss of data due to the ability to store data submissions offline, the audit trail that the Fit for Work app provides has never been more robust.
Design Rationale- a specialist architectural metalwork and glazing contractor - needed to put additional safety measures in place to protect their staff and to reassure the main contractor that project work was safe to continue.
The company looked for new technologies that could support a safe return to work, including temperature checking devices, thermal imaging cameras and supporting mobile software.
